What support do EMI students and teachers need? Evidence from a global study

RECORDED: 28 November 2024
Short Description

Universities are internationalising to increase the number of international students coming to study and to benefit local students. Internationalisation often means teaching academic subjects such as engineering, sciences, and business in English. This is known as English Medium Instruction or EMI.

EMI creates challenges for both students and teachers as language and culture become key factors in the learning process. To maintain the quality of learning outcomes, we need to support a change in pedagogy.

Dr Kari Sahan is a leading researcher and expert in EMI and internationalisation. Dr Sahan will talk about the support which students and teachers need when a university internationalises. This talk is based on Dr Sahan’s global study.
