Class Observation: EMI Quality Assurance
for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs)

At Oxford EMI, we believe that a key element of EMI Quality Assurance is class observation. Class observation is a powerful tool for professional development and continuous improvement in education.

We provide class observation services tailored to the unique needs of your institution as follows:

1) Rate My Lecture ™:  Oxford EMI conducts your class observations for you.
2) Observer Training Programme: We train your staff to become observers.
3) External Moderation Services: Oxford EMI moderates your in-house observation programme

We can also provide tailor-made solutions for Observation. Contact us to discuss your institution’s requirements.

Rate My Lecture ™

We conduct your class observations for you.

Rate My Lecture™ is an online class observation service. Teachers send a video of their lecture to Oxford EMI who provide comprehensive feedback from an EMI expert. Observations are adapted to your requirements and your Institution and Ministry of Education guidelines. This is an opportunity for educational institutions to receive the specific feedback for your context.

This class observation service can also be provided in-person: Our observer comes to your university to conduct the observations.

Benefits of Rate My Lecture

  • Simple for institutions to organise.
  • Teachers simply send a video online. Oxford EMI observers do the rest. We supply your institution with proof of observations.
  • There is no Pass/ Fail.
  • Teachers receive helpful feedback with practical suggestions on how to improve their EMI pedagogy.

Institution Class Observation Certificate.

Oxford EMI supplies institutions with a certificate which states how many class observations have been conducted in a certain period of time e.g. an academic year.

External moderation services

We provide an external moderation service.

Through a yearly subscription, we review samples of lesson recordings and their associated observational reports your team has produced to validate their accuracy and consistency.

We review each sample and produce a moderation report that:

  • confirms the original findings and recommendations; and
  • highlights any area(s) we feel should have been noted.

Benefits of this service include:

  • Enhanced credibility of your observational programmes
  • Promotion of consistency in observation standards
  • Ensured fairness across the reports you produce

In addition, we provide your team with valuable feedback and suggested improvements on:

  • Your observational practices
  • Your observational tools
