The Oxford EMI training team travels and trains university teachers in countries around the world. The course can be for lecturers from your university or your university can become a partner and host a course for universities in your region.
The hosting institution provides the participants from various disciplines and institutions, arrival information and a classroom. We provide the trainer and all course materials including certificates.
The Oxford EMI team is experienced in training lecturers in many different countries; Brazil, Turkey, Japan, Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, France, Spain, Germany, Austria … Our team comes to you.
This is a 1-week course is for academics and lecturers in Higher Education who teach their subject in English. Participants teach academic disciplines such as Business, Finance, Engineering, Sciences, Humanities. They teach bachelors, masters and doctoral students. The course works best if there is a mix of disciplines and levels of experience.
Participants need an intermediate, B1 CEFR, level of English to participate. Their English can be ‘global’ English. It doesn’t need to be perfect.
The aim of this course is to give participants the tools to deal with the challenges of teaching and learning through a foreign language. Participants learn the teaching techniques needed to teach an international class. These techniques make lectures more comprehensible, interactive and motivating for international and home students.
Participants practise teaching a mini session using the new techniques they have learnt and receive feedback from the Oxford trainers.
Developing In-house EMI Support
Experienced teacher educators and English teachers can join our Oxford EMI courses. Participants learn about EMI issues, research into EMI, models for implementing EMI, and explore ways of creating their own in-house support for EMI in their institutions.
Organisation of International EMI courses
When internationalising, HEIs find that working together, exchanging ideas and best practice can be beneficial to all the institutions in a region or country.
These courses can be organised for a national or regional group of HEIs. For example, leading international universities such as ICU in Tokyo, Japan, work with Oxford EMI to host courses for participants from all over Japan. L’Université de Montpellier in France hosts for Universities, Instituts Universitaires de Technologie (IUT) and Grandes Ecoles in their region.
Courses can also be organised for a group of participants from the same university.
If your institution would like to discuss hosting a course please use the institutional enquiry form.
