Hot Topics in EMI – specialised workshops
These specialised workshops address the hottest topics in EMI teaching, ensuring you stay up to date with the most relevant topics. They are based on the latest research and expertise in EMI including within the Oxford EMI team itself.
Who are these workshops for?
These workshops are for institutions with lecturers working in EMI and international contexts in all disciplines. They are designed to deepen a lecturer’s knowledge and skills on the latest hot topics.
To get the most out of these workshops, participants would have already attended some EMI training.
What are the Hot Topics?
We have 4 workshops available. Each institution can choose one or more workshops from these specialised areas:
- The role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in EMI
- Innovative student assessment practices
- Increasing student engagement
- Effective teacher observation in EMI
What do the workshops focus on?
Each workshop has a specific focus on one of the Hot Topics. Course participants will explore how relevant research connects to real EMI planning and classroom practices.
Each live workshop includes:
- Introduction to key research
- Exploration of practical classroom implications
- Peer discussion in small breakout rooms
- Feedback on ideas from expert trainer
- Reflection on how ideas relate to your EMI context
- Q&A with your trainer
After the workshop, the trainer will provide participants with further resources and reading.

Duration: Each workshop lasts 90 minutes
Format: Live, online (via Zoom)
No. of participants: Minimum of 4 and maximum of 25 participants in a workshop
Proficiency recommendation
Participants’ English does not need to be perfect! The workshop is held in English with international teachers in mind. Participants will need to be able to understand and participate. No proof of English level is required.
