
Dr Kari Sahan
Senior Trainer and Researcher
Dr. Kari Sahan is a member of the consultancy team at Oxford EMI. She is also a Senior Trainer on our courses.
Kari is a well-respected researcher in EMI. She holds a DPhil (PhD) in Education from the University of Oxford, Department of Education. She is a member of the English Medium Instruction (EMI) Oxford Research Group and the assistant project lead for the ‘Teaching English and Teaching IN English Network’. Her research focuses on EMI in Higher Education, language education policy, and classroom interaction. Her doctoral research explored the relationship between language education policy and practice in higher education by examining the implementation of English-medium programmes in Turkey. Her research has appeared in journals such as ELT Journal, Journal of English for Academic Purposes, System, and Language Teaching Research. Kari has contributed to British Council projects on the global mapping of EMI, the implementation of EMI in Southeast Asia, and a recent EMI literature review.
Kari is currently a Lecturer in Second Language Education at the University of Reading. Previously, she tutored on the MSc in Applied Linguistics for Language Teaching at the University of Oxford, Department of Education from 2017-2020. She worked at the Turkish Fulbright Commission in Ankara and as an English language instructor in Turkey.
