Dr. Ikuya Aizawa
Consultant and researcher

Dr. Ikuya Aizawa is a member of the consultancy team at Oxford EMI. He is also a well-known researcher in EMI and an adviser appearing in our online self-access course.

Ikuya holds a PhD in Education (Applied Linguistics) from the Department of Education, University of Oxford and is a lecturer and supervisor for bachelors and masters students at the University of Nottingham. Ikuya’s analysis of EMI in Japan contrasted universities’ policy documents with data from interviews with directors of programmes, faculty members and students to illuminate institutional challenges and driving forces behind policy decisions. His research focuses on the role of English in higher education, policy concerning EMI, and the effectiveness of EMI in relation to students’ content and language outcomes. Ikuya has published many research articles on EMI in Higher Education as well as book chapters and co-authored 3 reports commissioned by the British Council.
